The young fellas been at me for a few weeks to take him fishing so up at sparrows fart on Sunday and off we go down to Tin Can Bay. He's been talking to his mates and decides that it would be good to launch from Crab Creek and fish under the power lines so off we set a couple of hours before high water. We'd had a few small Bream and Moses Perch drifting up on the tide before he decides it would be good to go down to Poverty Point and try there, about a K from the old jetty the bloody prop spun in the bush and we had to crawl at barely a knot the last bit. Now I know why I never took the spare prop out of the tinnie after stubbing my toe on it a few times and chucked it under the floor instead. We got a few strange looks as we crawled into the point jumped out and changed props before roaring out again to continue fishing. By this time the tide had well and truly turned and I was all for calling it a day but no he wants to head up to Teebar and fish for a while, it was blowing up a little and by the time we got into the creek I was glad of the shelter we headed up to a couple of good spots and caught some nice fish before he got bored again, that's why I don't take him. heading back home we passed a half cab sat high and dry on the sandbar at bird rocks. The young fella says he saw them stuck there on the way up and wanted to know how long they would be stuck there Hmmm at least another 4/5 hours as the tide was still ebbing I thought.
Playing the good Samaritan I asked if they had plenty of water and they came out with a classic tale.
Both guys were pommies from the Isle of White, they were lobster red, no sunscreen and no hats and only 500ml of water between them. They had hired the boat from Carlo Point and cruised out to see the dolphins at Tin Can Bay. The only chart they had of the area they had never been to before was a crudely drawn mud map showing a few of the major landmarks and beacons. They thought they were at Snapper creak and wanted to know how long it would be before they would float off. After telling them the bad news and offering to telephone/radio the boat hirer one of them pipes up that he's a diabetic and needs his insulin jab at 5PM :o :o it was 4.30 then!
Against my better judgement we took him on-board and headed over to Carlo to drop him at the boat hirers. The journey over took us well over an hour in the wind and rain and 3 in a small tinny was not such a good idea. I was worried he was going to get crook on me as he fell off the bloody seat twice. At the ramp we were met by the idiot boat hirer who'd hired the craft, more concerned for his boat than the health of the now soaked and shivering Pom we'd delivered. I had to show him on my chart where the craft was beached as he didn't have one and then he was off to get an anchor to anchor up the boat he'd hired out as it didn't have one. ::)
During this time the young fella had rung mum again to let her know the situation as she'd also tried to ring the guy who'd hired the boat out. We arrived back home a couple of hours late and with the Mrs starting to doubt our story. Lucky for us the boy had captured a shot on his moby of the stranded boat. ;)
Ah well back to work for another week I can't wait for next weekend.

Sounds like a tall story..and still no pic's.

No really Cresta57
Good of you to do that for a pair of dicks let out there by an even bigger one.

Safety should be the first rule on the water.

Should there be someone of authority you can tell, of there ordeal, that would fine the hirer of the vessel for neglegence.

What I find amazing is the guy who hired the boat out to them gave them a couple of 10 bucks a pop life jackets and one paddle. That was the entire safety equipment on the boat no radio no V sheet no flares and neither one had a mobile.
Irresponsible is an understatement

Cresta57,
You might like to relate your story to these people

You know they would deserve a big kick up the pants for putting peoples lives at risk for the sake of a dollar. They should be stopped, and NOW. You are the one that needs to say the first word.
