Maybe old news :-? ,but I just recently renewed the Car drivers Lic. ,and they don't have donor Y/N anymore ,but it does show a "Marine" category and in my case "RMDL" ...Rec Masters Driver Lic??
(was automatically done i.e. didn't ask)

Handy if you go interstate, and need proof if asked ;)

Yep, it's been done automatically. Anyone with the paper licences would have had them auto transferred to their car licence. Qld Transport has admitted that some peoples details may have been lost in the process, so it might be a good idea to check with QT that your licence has been transferred over.

Gazza - it's the first I've heard of it being 'printed' on your driver's licence.

A great idea that should have been done years ago instead of the ridiculous 'virtual licence'.

I dont care if they put my boat licence on my car licence or not. I am keeping my paper one in my tackle box for as long as im kicking around.

Got my new licence yesterday - they said the Marine Licence bit has only been printed on the D/L for the last two weeks. Handy if you are out of State maybe, but I'll still keep a copy of my paper one in the boat. I think the licence is still virtual as it will still need to be looked up on computer to get licence numbers and details as they don't appear on your D/L.

Cheers

You dont loose your boat licence for driving offences. I havent heard of anyone loosing there boat licence. Im sure it has happened but im not aware of it. Maybe others in here know more. As for insurance they will find away not to pay at anytime.

DUI is a different matter though I understand. Lose your driver's licence for drink-driving and your boat licence is goooooone, and vice-versa. Same as getting done riding a bike while drunk....

I transferred mine over from NSW to QLD only 3 weeks back. I was told at the time that you only need carry your drivers licence now on the water as the Water Police have online capability to find your boat licence details via your drivers licence.

check again - maybe the paper version has been good for a number of decades but they have both been inextricably (is this a real word) for quite a number of years ever since the marine section was migarted to Qld Tpt. Lose one, lose both regardless of reason whether one is plastic, one is paper or both virtual. They are one and the same, bit like having a car and bike licence. Doesn't matter how the offences occurred.

They have been trying to link the marine licence to the driving licence for at least 8 years that I know of as I lost my first paper licence (early 80's) and had to get a new one,, Even though they had it registered it cost me $12.50 for a new one and then it wasn't even a licence but a statement to say that I had a licence. I eventually found the original and last time I went in to check about 2 years ago it was still valid even though on the statement that I was isssued I was given a new number. Maybe QLD Tpt is just coming into the last century.

Thanks JT for clarifying, I updated my licence in June due to medical conditions -QT has imposed this on diabetics now but they didn't put anything on mine and I was wondering why, but you have cleared that one up

Ah well, if I had a boat I guess I would care more.

If you dont have a drivers licence, they will give you a letter with your boating licence details. They did this for my 16 year old son.

Thats right you dont loose your Boating License for Driving offences with the exclusion of DUI, you drink and drive and get busted you loose anything that is attached to your license.

On the other hand, if you get done for speeding on the water, drink driving whilst on the water and a few other things, you can either loose your car license or be demeritted points of it, i had to check this out with DOT just so i was clear of the laws.

Is there such a things as a good insurance comapany?

Thanks for the info DavidT. I appreciate it. Thankfully I dont drink and drive and I dont let booze on the boat. I have seen to many fishing club fools down the pin drunk as skunks and going overboard. Safety is too important to mix booze with it.
