Swappers, if you've never seen heard of or participated in a fly swap, here's your chance to have a ball, learn heaps and get better at tying. each swap has a theme. You choose your swap. Decide on a pattern and tie up 1 fly of that pattern for each of the other swappers.

Lets say there's 10 participants total.

You tie up 1 fly of your choosing for each of the other swappers (9) attach details of the fly, materials, tying instructions etc and include sufficient return postage in stamps if it costs 2 dollars to mail them, include $2 stamp in the pack then mail them to the swap master who in turn will collate the collection, returning 1 each of 9 different flies to the participants.

Once you've decided to nominate to participate, you need to decide on the pattern early and ensure you have adequate materials to do the task. Get into it as early as possible. There's nothing worse for a swap master than sitting waiting for someone to send flies that are a month late and everyone is waiting for your fly. But that won't happen because there will be a time limit on it.

;D [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

i'm up for it

what flies are we tying?

past swaps i've been involved in have picked a theme rather than a free-for-all.

i tie all sorts (specialising in salmon flies)
so decide and let me know

Cheers

further on the swap theme

the best way to learn a pattern is to repeat it many times

tips for swaps:
1) try and get all flies lookinga s uniform as possible - nothing worse than being a swapmaster and having a box arrive with 5 good flies and 5 scabby flies
2) do them early!
3) do flies you know you can do well
4) when you get your swapsies in the post copy them and try them when you fish

AK Best: "i never feel i have mastered a fly until i have tied 100 dozen of them"

Fly Swap Guidelines

Date (1) – Final Registration Date:
Date (2) – Final Postage Date:

1) All tyers to register with swap master by date (1)
2) All tyers to advise swap master of
a) what fly they are tying; and
b) their email address and postal address,
when registering.
3) Day after date (1) swap master is to email each participant with the number of flies required (total number of participants)
4) All flies to be posted to swap master by no later than last post date (2)
5) All flies to be individually toe tagged with tyers name and pattern name
6) Flies to be securely packed in cardboard or plastic rigid container that is labeled with tyers name
7) Container to be sent to swap master together with stamped, self-addressed envelope.
8) Swap master will divide up flies ensuring each participant gets 1 of each.
9) Swap master to start new thread on forum for feedback from participants (constructive and positive feedback only please – we’re doing this for fun remember, not to score points).

You’ll note I have asked that each tyer tie enough for one fly for each each participant, which obviously includes themselves. This just makes it easier for the swap master who can just divide them up evenly and not have to worry about who tied what etc.

Maybe as well if we start a new thread with the subject "Fly Swap - Charlies"?

then we can make sure that a casual observer will see that its happening?

Anselmo
14-04-2005, 01:26 PM
that way we can (hopefully) make sure we get a full quota of ten tyers (swaps work best with 10 tyers)

Vinny
16-04-2005, 05:42 AM
righto well wich ever of you two gary or anselmo wants to host it start a new thread with same dates and we can get to it.
