hello, just wondering i moved from the UK to cairns recently and took with me a HARDY angel 10weight reel. and a matched sage saltwater rod. but was told to get rid of the reel as it will rust very quickly. realising the salt content is a lot higher in the tropics, has anyone got any tips or is there anyway to treat the reel before use?
cheers dan

Hey Dan

Firstly WELCOME to teh greatest place on Earth. PERIOD.

MAte get hold of a product called Lanoguard, this is a lanolin based product therefore its all natural stuff and doesnt affect the fly line, etc etc

Just make sure you wash teh reel EVERY time you use it in warm SOAPY water and allow it to dry or wipe it off, then give it a wipe over with a piece of rag with some of this stuff on it.

Been usin it for years and am yet to have any of my gear show signs of corrossion. Wipe the guides and the rod with it to and scales etc just wash right off.

You are in a great place , enjoy the fishing and our MAGNIFICENT country. ;D
