Cy,

I've got all my Golden Trevally on Clousers.

Try a slower retrieve. Slow and steady. Keep the fly in the strike zone.

Try leading the fish and letting the fly get right down on the bottom. Start a slow retrieve when the fish are on it.

Keep at them, they'll take your fly eventually.

:o Hello,
I have been sightfishing the sandy beaches of the outer Whitsunday Islands recently,
for Queenfish and Golden Trevally.

The photo pictured here is a 96cm Queenfish on a 8/9 weight, and an all white deciever, attached to intermediate line.

While sightfishing, I spotted large Golden Trevally sometimes in groups of 3's and by themselves, tailing in 1 - 3m of very clear water.
I was using a plain white deciever, a red over white deciever and a yellow over white clouser with lead eyes. I was using a double strip retrieve, and letting the fly sink directly in front of the Golden Trevally on 4 occasions, yet no strike was seen or felt. A quiet approach was made on all 4 occasions.

Questions: What are the most suitable fly patterns for large Golden Trevally on the flats?
Is a heavy fly required in most flats situations?
Is a crab fly a better option for this situation?
What retrieves are succesfull using both clousers and crab flies?

Any information or teqniques is appreciated.
