Just letting the SFF guys know the Tuna are back along Bribie.
We only got 3 boated because there was to many Jelly fish in the water and the line would hit them when the fish ran and snappo. Most of them were under 10 kg but there is the odd nice big LT crusing around :)
there was a 2 other boats swafing on saturday morning while we were out there.

Nice one Nick!!
Can't see that first photo (needs reducing)
Its good to see the pelagics turning up, had some snodgers around the rocks here in the last week or so. Big Spanish around 20kg are getting caught of the stones and there has been reports of massive longtails (estimated at 50-60 lb)
just out of casting distance smashing schools of watsons bonito and mack tuna :o.
Could be a good year for em!!
Regards, Tony

I regards to other swofers there was one up further ie 3klms north of where you guys were.
In regards to lure size we got more strikes on the larger Fly/Softplastics/slugs and our suspisions on what they were eating were confirmed when we checked the contents of there stomachs which was large WA Pillie style fish.
mate the stealth style sneaking up and drifting wasn't working for us and we ended up going hard at the odd school. we should have headed up nprth earlier for more longtail action.
One thing to note is how many fish we lost because of the stupid jelly fish hitting the line and snapping us off. Doesn't help I was using and going for the 3kg line class record ::)

Billo,
There were two types of bait around, the tuna seemed to be hammering the smaller stuff - a size 2 or 1/0 grey and white baitfish, a surf candy or anorexic clouser should do the job. There was also some larger bait as Nick said but we didn't see any tuna bust into that, that bait was in close to the beach and packed tight on the bottom...
A better pic :D :D :D

If you are chasing with spin, use little 2 inch padle tail plastics on a half oz jig head with a 3/0 heavy hook. Colour is obviously white fleck, I use the eco gear jobbys.
I will take a pick of one if any one is interested.

Picture of plastics. You can trim about half a cm off the head. I use half oz jig head. All in all a very close match to the bait they are currently chewing on.

yep , the same slugs i am using ...or similar .
I am using a mixture of geralds and sea rocks and those also ...got plenty of white in the 4 - 7 gram range ...they will be getting pulled out .
Very basic plastics your using there ....heavier weight then i would usually use , but effective ?

Billo,
head is just to get some more casting distance, doesnt seem to scare or shy away any of the LT's. Worked well last season.
Plastic is a dead set ringer for the bait fish at the moment and when cranked at speed gets the tail going well.

ahhh ...so you actually give it a fast retrieve ...
let it sink a bit first or hammer on the surface ?
StevenM

Both,
will let it sink at times. But yes crank like buggery as per a slug. All the plastic is doing is matching the bait.
Cheers

sometimes if you leave a tag on your knot about 1cm on the softplastics the tag will provide a buble trail which sends the tuna nuts, the poblem is you end up with 3 or 4 fish fighting over your lure which can end up in being snapped off
