Go to your nearest tackle shop which has a reputable fly fishing instructor on the premises.
Talk to the man and ask a million questions.

Second option, book a day on the water with a professional guide in your area. Talk to the man and ask a million questions.

Each person has his opinion, which is ussually formed from experience.

There are a few good but expensive companies out there. The unfortunate thing is that they have become expensive names with mediocre products on the market.

My favourites in the upper ranges is the Orvis TLS Power Matrix and their lower priced Clearwater ranges. Then for mid range rod I use a Stealth Magnum +. Excellent value for money (Not sure if you can get them in Aus though.)

Have fun shopping. I can already see the Xmas card..........

Have a good time with it ;D

If I was anywhere near Australia I would have picked up that little Red for myself........ that is a very decent price compared with what they cost overseas currently.

Better luck next time.

Going by model number on the Redington it's about 5 or 6 years old(I have an SSF9092),and Sage did not own the company then, not a bad rod but its old technology.

Latitude
For value for money have a look at the following rods
Redington RS3 or CPS series
Temple Fork Outfitters(TFO)
Albright(a company started by original owner of Redington)
If your local to Brissie or the Gold Coast, drop me a pm and we can try and meet up and you can have a cast of my rods and see what you like.
cheers

:)goodya courty. I am in melbourne and i have just ordered a allbright exs 9# saltwater model rod. It is a great rod that is a 4 piece and am looking forward to get my mits on it. Just starting out on salt fishing but want to set up a 9# to go up to cape york and weipa. I am also thinking about a 11# also to tangle with the big Gt's and barrra. Thanks for the info and have a great xmas.
