hey all

i am just about to enter the world of fly fishing - i have purchased my first rod and some flys - and i would like to know a couple of things - 1 : what areas on and around the gold coast are good for fly fishing and 2: what sort of set up do i need to start tying my own flys ( i have read a bit on the net but would like to know opinions on what is "necessary" in a fly tying kit)

The neccessities are - patience and a keen eye.

Those two things are far more important than any tool or material you will ever buy.

Good luck lad, here is hoping you have many days of waving the wand.

Hi,

I reckon give the fly tying ago I did and quite enjoy it.

I just have the basic gear - a clamp type vice (onto the dinning table! :o) a bobbin holder some sharp small scissors and the basic materials - buck tail various colours, crystal flash, sparklefflash maxibraid, crystal chenille, bead chain, some sort of head cement etc that covers most of my saltwater needs - oh and dont forget some hooks - strait point ones! :)
but i still dont know how to tie off correctly with a whip finish i use the old half hitches ;D :(
