how to lose a Minnkota prop

Don't check that it is located properly on the pin after taking it off! (I assume).

Trolled for several hundred meters forward. Snagged. Reverse. No progress after a couple of metres. Looked over transom. Why can I see stainless instead of black plastic????

Too deep and sharky looking for a duck dive. Crew refused as well. Bottom on sounder looks far too rough to add snagged cast net to my woes as well.

Oh, yes, they don't float. No doubt the wallet will be much lighter once the replacement arrives.

Bad Luck with the prop.

I always check my prop after hitting a snag, especialy if I hit the snag whilst in reverse.

After a few years the prop corrodes on pretty good and shouldn't fall off ::)

Just a note with the newer Minkota's they use a nyloc nut to hold the prop on rather than the plastic peice that you could undo with your fingers. The problem is though that if you break the shear pin then you need a fine screw driver to stop the shaft from turning to get the nut off - so make sure you carry one

I had a similar problem with a Mariner T33 (1990 circa).
The motor would start wobbling then if you cut the power the prop fell off. The thread on the shaft was an unusual size and the nylock nut cost me nearly $10 back then but that fixed it. Strange thing that the earlier Mariner T21 had no such problem.

thanks Snelly. I think Minnkota still sell the plastic wing nut for mine. If not, I'll make sure I have the right screwdriver on board.

G'day Alan, sorry my post was ambiguous, I snagged a trolled lure. The prop has done plenty of gardening on other occasions though.
