I will not be much help here but either the 4 or hpdi will work just as well for trolling saltwater. If you do any slow freshwater trolling then the hpdi will idle down way lower than any 4 stroke if you wanted it to.nq

basser, got a bit of a fright with your big question ;D

once you go 4 stroke you wont ask again.

Bass unless you are going for a larger horsepower donk then four stroke is the only way to do it.
Once you have done it you will wonder why you hadn't done it years before. :D
Cheers Kev.

A fair bit of horse power difference there... If that is not an issue then 4 stroke would be better for trolling long periods. The new direct injection 2 strokes use a lot less fuel than the old carby models but it is still more than the equivalent EFI 4 stroke. Also 2 stokes burn oil, so more exhaust fumes (which is more noticeable at trolling speed) and plug fowling after long periods of low revs.

depends on the hull and whether you'll need the extra horsepower offered by the 2 stroke and what the weight diff is between the 2 engines.

the 4 stroke will have better resale.

hey bass I have a 90hp tohatsu 2 stroke
I can troll at 100 rpm about 3kms and hour according to the gps and from what I gather from the user guide it is running at 120 to 1 has plenty on grunt also I know its not a lot to do with your question but there are other options
as for FUEL you wont bet it at the bowser
