Anyone had anything to do with the new durahub wheel bearing lubrication system? If so what are your thoughts? If I'm not having any problems and do regular maintenance do they buy you anything? Just not sure about the old syaing of if it aint broke don't try and fix it.

i have had a similar system (company isnt selling as many now as durahub are using s/steel) on my trailer for 4-5 years they really do extend the life of the bearings and aslong as you dont dunk your axle under water too quickly after a long drive they dont get anywater in. But however you must use the right seals for them of they dont last long i have tryed different ones and the original ones were the best.

They were showing them on tv sunday afternoon, read the web blurb, they sound ok you can see the oil level and if its milky you know you have water in the hub.
Downside i see is you use loctite to make sure they dont fall off, so removing them to change a seal or bearing could be a pain as you would need to heat up the hub to break the loctite, also if you did manage to loose one how far would you get before cooking the bearing.
Personally i'll stick with greased bearings.

I tried a similar product some years ago and after replacing several sets of seals I went back to bearing mates and grease.

Curly,
They were about 140-150 bucks at the Brissy boat show. Great idea that you can see what going on but the cost and by the sounds of it the seals need to be the originals.
Stick to good quality grease and bearing mates. Bearing mates are $25 and normal seals you will pick up for under 6 for a pair. I do alot of travelling with the boat and this has never let me down.
Remove and repack the bearings every six months and have never had a prob. Give the bearing mates a pump or two after every trip and she will be apples.
Use a good quality grease but, I can not stress that enough.
Cheers Steven

I just towed the mates Wheelie Bin up to the Territory and back and it's got them fitted to it, everytime I stopped for fuel or a leak, I felt the hubs and they never got above luke warm, as a Motor Mechanic I had my doubts about filling wheel bearings with oil rather than grease, but they certainly seem to do the job.
