On another post I Smithy uses white as his background, I mostly use black in the day and blue at night as I find its better for my eyes to pick up showings.
What do you find best and when

Gav,
I'm running black but that's really because everything else is really hard to see during the day. I've got the older video style furuno unit and with any light on it - it's almost impossible to see.
I don't think I have the ability to select white - just black and blue.

I think you will find that Smithy uses a black background with the hardest colour ( eg. bottom) white. I run an FF50 also and have the same set-up , great contrast! ;)

So when using the white for the hardest colour on the bottom, I would expect the normal red showing of fish to then be white??

Yep thats it white is the hardest so big shows that are tightly packed are white ;)

I have a Garmin 178C and works well with or without sunnies, day or night with Blue Background, red for hard stuff and fish.
