1996 Mustang 2000 tournament

Chasing information from fishing/boating folk that have been in one of these boats..
What do they ride like, wet/dry etc, etc??
Any problems that come with them, more than other boats of the same size?
Would you buy one, why or why not? :-? As I am looking at buying one....

Thanks in advance
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

According to a recent mag the Mustang 2000 Tournament and the Bermuda Bluewater 2000 are the same boat. I have an article/test on both boats, I would be happy to scan them and email to you if you would like.

PM me your email if you would like them, and if so let me know what resolution you would like them scanned at.

A quick skim of the articles, it seems to get quite good reviews.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul
Received your emails....Thanks for your quick reply.
Was very informative and a good review.
Helped to make my mind up, as I did hear some bad reports, but I guess you can get that with any boat, everyone has their favourites.
Again, great work..
Thanks
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

I have a 1997 Mustang 2000 Tournament with 150 Evinrude OceanPro and am very happy with its all round performance.
Though I haven't yet had it out in real rough stuff, it gives a soft dry ride.
It does lean into the wind or list based on weight distribution and is tender at rest, but nothing alarming by any means. After all it is a deep vee mono hull.
Mine has a Sports 300 foil which appears to work well, but I haven't tried it without the foil.
The 150hp is ample power as it will cruise on 52kph at 4000rpm and WOT 70kph at 5200rpm with a 19" 3 blade prop. (2 people and fishing gear with all the clears in place)
I recently purchased a 17" 4 blade Solas which doesn't appear to have made much difference, but I have only had one run in it with new prop.
It does porpoise a little with the motor trimmed out. I think that the later model hulls which have the keel follow all the way through underneath the outboard rather than the moulded pod arrangement would eliminate this problem.

To sum up I've had it for just over a year and am very satisfied.
My only complaints would be the single hatch cover for the cabin & anchor well and the 120l fuel tank, which I think is bit on the small side for a 20 foot boat. I get on average 1.2km/litre.

Regs,
Mick
