G-Day all,
A mate of mine just mounted a hydrofoil onto to his 115hp outboard and hasn't stopped raving about it. Thought it sounded like a pretty good idea and have been looking at the SE sport 300. As with most decisions a like to gather the best info I can before I fork out the money. So, any advice, likes or dislikes about the hydrofoil from the members of the fishing forum of knowledge would be greatly appreciated. ;D
(PS I did a search and was unable to locate any info........)
Regards,
brenmer

IMO if outboards were meant to have foils they would be cast at the time of manufacturing, why fit one?, is your outboard underpowered, wrong prop, have you got a hull with a inherent problem. Have you got a foil on the car too

Ah Blaze,
So why do people put chips in their car computers or mag wheels with low profile tyres or different suspension or a better radio or etc etc.
Answer...To 'make' them go better... ;)

Good point about the Mfrs not fitting them... Mercury does not recommend them due to the sudden forces that can come into play when turning sharply with a foil. They are reported to get the boat out of the hole quicker and improve slow speed handling when not planing.
I had one fitted to a 50 Merc and it really helped returning to the ramp and not hitting moored boats at slow speed . As far as speed and lift.. I didn't notice much difference.

Hoges, thanks for the links :) blaze, my boat goes pretty well, however, it tends to drop out of the plane at around 3000(ish)rpm, which, with the kids on board seems to be a pretty comfortable speed when it gets a bit choppy. I was hoping with the hydrofoil on it would let me keep planing at a lower rpm (speed) and thus keep us all happy. Anything less than around 20kts it starts to pitch up and drop out of the plane (and yes, I have been adjusting the tilt to aviod this). Also getting onto the plane it tends to pitch up quite high till planning speed is established. I have a fairly large heavy donk on the back which may also contribute to the problem ( max size recommended by the manufacturer)
An to answer your other question, no I don't have a foil on my car ::) but, it would make the old Holden look pretty cool ;D

BRENMAR.......
Check with your engine manufacturer about fitting foils,as i have read in boating mags that they can void your warranty.
]i may be wrong but probably worth checking.....
