G'day fellow Ausfishers,
Thought I'd do the right thing the other day and check with the marine dealer who fitted my last motor (Johnson/Suzuki 4 stroke 115) and find out when my next service was due. The reply was after 10 -20 hours (which has already been done) and at about 50 hours or 12 months later whichever came first, (done 60 hours in 8 months) and of course I asked as to the cost. The cost breakdown was sizeable to say the least + parts which could be spark plugs as well as oil etc. about $350
After some deliberation I thought this is going to cost me an arm and a leg each year, and I did not beleive the original quotes on services were stated to be that often before signing on the dotted line.
So after finding my service manual I checked when the next service was. True there is a service at say 50 hours but it does not involve the extent to what the dealer describes. So again slightly confused i sought another opinion from other dealers and found that they would also do a full service at 50 hours, all dealers were following this same route until I happened to mention that it is not what the manual states and that dealer after some discussion with fellow colleagues decided that yes I was right and the service is at 100 hours.
I do intend to ring Bombardier in Sydney to find out the truth and why dealers would be telling me this information, but I was wondering in the meantime what fellow boaters opinions regarding this situation might be.
(Don't get me wrong very happy with the motor and realised it would cost a bit more than the 2 stroke to service when I bought it).
Thanks Paul
