Boat Show Specials

I am looking to buy a new boat at the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show as well as a ton of accesseries. My question is, do you really get special prices from the show that can't get from walking into their showroom next weekend.

Also, has anyone screwed down the price on a new boat below their 'show' special price.

On some items like electronics a price war often breaks out.

You would want to know the best price BEFORE the show to really see how "special" the boat show price was ::)

One of the major discounts at boat shows normally comes from the motor company's. They have specials, which the dealer includes in the package price. I brought a 33K boat show package last year and to be honest I wish I brought all the gear seperate. I would of got a better service and your incontrol of every part of your new boat. They tend to push parts of the package that you would not normally buy. And after you settle down after the sale, you wish you got something else.

The package deal lets you get on the water with a minimum of fuss. If you have the time do your own research, chase a good deal. You will get a better deal. There are many dealers that don't go to the boat show at all because they have plenty of work without needing to sell a package deals.

On saying that, I love the boat show for all the great idea's and to see all the boats in one spot.

I share your views Peter did the bitza here bitza there thing on my boat rather than the package thing and saved in the order of $5k overall because of motor rebates and fitting deals with the motor dealer, who insidently supplied and fitted all the electronics.

Where this begins to become undone is when there is a problem of some sort and every one starts blaming the other for the problem. In my case the issue was a minor one, in that the trailer axle was not positioned correctly for the weight of the boat and motor, ie axle is too far back and too much weight on the tow ball. This should have been done by the dealer installing the motor, he begs to differ so I just it myself, much easier than arguing the point!

disagree with you on the issue of the guy fitting the motor should balance YOUR load, IMO that would come down to the person that owned the load.

I have found you usually get a good deal at the boat shows, they have quotas there after and the extras thown in to make it more attaractive. If you don't want them say so, I did and they dropped the price. Also try for a few more things you will know when you have there bottom price when they walk away!

Agree with argle you need to have researched a good price before going to a boat show

Sundown marine recently had a massive sale and the packages where quite good a heap of extras that i wanted where included and also $1200 in store credit for a better price than i had bargained at other dealers on just boat and motor.

I took this price to other dealers then they started coming down

In conclusion it pays to research and make sure you are 100% happy with deal before singing dotted line

As said in earlier post you need to know your prices and get the best prices
before hand.
People rely on impulse buying also.

I personally went to a fishing and boating show (not naming where or when )
the kokoda weather station thingo's where $99 at my local store
they where 30% cheaper.

No harm in trying; your cances of banging out a better deal at the show than in the showroom are slim, but if you don't ask, you are a 100% chance of failure. About the only thing I've noticed at some of the recent shows is you might be able to get a good deal on a finance package. I have noticed that there are some pretty good rates on offer at the shows.

I have already spent some time researching my product so hopefully I will be able to determine if the 'Boat Show Special' was anything special at all.

And don't fall for the "We can only do this deal at the boat show line". Just tell them you aren't willing to sign up at the show and if they want to give you the offer after the show you'll think about dealing with them otherwise there are plenty more dealers to go and see. Also found it good to talk to the company reps rather than the dealers as they can give you good tips on setup once you've decided what boat to buy

Hey mate beatiful choice, i went to the show with my heart set on a Bluefin Cobia. Got the invoice here form the dealer today and they are waiting for a deposit on

- 4.85 Trailcraft Profish
- 75hp Mercury 4 Stroke

What did you end up paying for that package ?

Mine is $32500

With boat, motor, trailer, safety gear, deckwash thing, killtank plumbed also as livewell, epirb, VHF radio, 2 seats, cutting board, and my own sounder (i already own) installed, bimini top, livie tank.

Gonna add a Minnkota and a coloured chartplotter later.

My boat has exactly the same fitout as yours exact I ordered 2 extra seats (1 sliding) and my boat is missing the cutting board.

My price $29,800.
Sounds about right for the slightly smaller boat and motor.

Interested to know what dealer you bought from ? I am buying from cunningham marine, i found mr T's a bit pushy. Also are you getting the trailcraft I-beam trailer ? Looks real solid and good construction, at least you can get to the rust (if any) before its to late as most tube trailers rust from inside out. Also the sliding seat you bought, does it look like the trailcraft seats or doest it look different ? Because i wouldn't mind a sliding seat for the driver seat to adjust the positions.

I purchased the boat from Mr Ts and yes I am getting the I-Beam trailer which really looks the goods. I also noticed that they supplied light truck tyres which was also impressive. I didn't find Mr Ts pushy at all and in fact was quite impressed by them as a dealer which is part of the reason I went with them. I visited Cunningham Marine about a month ago and was totally underwelmed by the salesman I spoke to.

The sliding seat is for the driver and will be a modification to the Trailcraft seat by the dealer. From my investigation the seating position on trailcraft is assuming that driver will be standing when driving. By putting in a sliding seat I can drive comfortably while sitting and standing.

What will be the main use for your 485?

I will be using the boat for everything. Offshore (as far as barwon banks on good days), impoundment (awoonga, monduran), estuary.

The dealer is just going to modify the standard seat with a slider which I believe can be purchased from BIAS Boating for approx. $100.

I am definetely getting the engine controls mounted on the side of the boat as it feels more comfortable when driving in a seated position.
