What size Tohatsu.

Can you afford to go top of the range

Is fuel economy an issue for you

do you want 2 stroke noise or 4 stroke quiet

Is hole punch necessary for crossing bars

Sorry, just need a little more info to help you out.

If you answer all these questions the you should get plenty of feed back

Welcome Corby1

The 50 2 stroke is an excellent motor, according to the marine mechanic that I deal with, who by the way is an Evinrude/Johnson dealer.
I believe some Mercury motors are produced by Tohatsu.
I have the Tohatsu 30, very reliable and trouble free, economical to own and use, would definitely be happy with other Tohatsus on future boats.
What size boat? Glass or aluminium? How many passengers?
Asking because the bigger the boat and payload, the bigger the motor you will need.
Cheers.

Thank you for your reply nigler
the boat is a 16 ft aluminium side console if the whole family is going out there will be 5 of us but mostly 2 or 3 expecially if going out side.

thanks again

Tohy's are pretty well bomb proof but as with everything there are exceptions to the rule. They're pretty basic in design which, in my opinion, helps them a lot. The finish on some is an issue but otherwise it's hard to hurt them :)
I have a 25hp Tohy and very happy with it.
A good way of knowing how good the model is, is to ring a few outboard wreckers and see if they have them or not in stock or can get second hand parts. ;)
Mine is a 2000 model and I rang 3 wreckers. 2 had none and only 1 ever had one as is was drowned and ceized.
All the best
Scott

Look at the TLDI 50 too. Balance of 2 stroke power and 4 stroke economy, and priced better than other DFI 2 strokes as well. Yes they are pretty well bulletproof and I own a Mariner which is a rebadged Tohatsu. You can't go wrong. Joey.
