All
I am currently buying a Mustang Bluewater 2000 (6.2m) to be fitted with a 140HP Suzuki fourstroke.
I have only been for a test run in one fitted with a 175hp so am unsure of the difference in performance.
I have noted that this boat has been fitted with 115s before so it SHOULD be ample.
Can anyone who has experience with the 140hp let me know what you think about this match up.
Regards
Phil

Not too sure how a 140 (but you cant go wrong with a suzuki) I would hate to see a 115 on the back, my brother has the same mustang with a 200 etec, goes good, let us know how it performs with a 140 on the back
cheers
Dave
G'day Phil
I have a 140 suzuki four stroke 2003 model on a 6m sportfish cuddy cabin which i think would be around about the same weight as your mustang. The suzy goes great top speed of around 33 knots on a four blade stainless 13 x 19 solas prop.
Fuel economy is also a great feature I ran to wide caloundra a couple of weeks ago 18.5 nm one way plus a bit of motoring around drifting ect so all up for the day did approximately 42-43nm and only used 47 litres that was with three of us fishing on a fairly clean day.
I can cruise on around 4200 which gives me around about 23-24 knots not exact figures but pretty close.
I can only give you positives about these motors start first time every time no fumes very quiet (at idle you forget they are going) and i think that on your size boat you wont be dissapointed wont be a rocket ship but i figure you will be getting around about the same performance as i do, and really you can only go so fast.
Any other questions you may have just pm me i would be glad to help
Good luck
cheers pete.
Also phil thought i would just add that i once owned a 18 ft mustang ancient thing and it had a 115 2 stoke and it was a old blue band motor but with that motor on a 18ft boat it absolutley flew

Phil,I have 140 Johnson 4s= Suzuki 140, same motor only painted white.
It's on a 5.3 TABS C/C Plate Ally, hull weight 800kgs,150 L fuel capacity. 19 x 13 prop and it has some serious get up and go. I've only got 9.5 hrs on the motor so I haven't got economy figures as yet, not true indication of fuel use. 5hrs cruising on the bay and of shore I used about 55 L of fuel. 4000rpm cruising speed, GPS speed is about 22knts. WOT 5800 rpm touches about the 36knts. Very quiet motor, can't hear at idle. Will get some fuel use figures after it has been serviced.
Cheers Peter
Hi Phil,
I have a '97 Mustang 2000 tournament with a 150hp eEvinrude Ocean Pro of the same vintage. On average I get 1.2km/litre with the best figures being 1.4km/litre at 3900rpm, 51kph. I am spinning a Solas 4 blade 17" pitch prop.
I would be very interested to hear what your performance figures are with the 140 Suzuki 4 stroke.
In my opinion I would go for the 175hp if your budget will cover.
Cheers,
Mick

Signature 600RF with a suzuki 140hp. Top speed 33knts, best economy at around 4750 RPM @ 2.2l/km @ 24knts to WOT around 6000 RPM @ 1.6l/km. Nice quite motor, reasonable hole shot, but a little more top end speed would have been nice.

Phil,
Indy / Pete - those figures sound too thirsty, you should be doing better than that, probably around 1.1 - 1.2 nautical miles / lire.
Monza, surely your numbers are around the wrong way?? Or perhaps the units should be km/litre??

That's better Monz - I have a 130 2 str Yammi on a 5.75 Cruise Craft and when its trimmed up correctly, I get .75 - 8 nautical miles / litre, or around 1.3 km / l

mmmmm, I'm getting 2.3km/lt from my Honda 150 4 stroke , pushing a 5.8 Sea Jay Centre Console, 2 adults 165lt fuel plus all thegear you normally take, generally go out at 4000 revs and return at 5000/5500 revs{waters flattened out by then!!!], 97/100 kms , use 42/44lt, normally pushing tide, both ways, thought that was OK, what you guys think??? :-/

Hey Broomey,
Good the hear the Honda is treating you right. My 135 was ordered the other day. Will be over for the Billfish comp with it hopefully and might see you there.
What prop are you running at the moment and what speeds are you getting out of her.
Also are you noticing a difference in the performance as she loosens up a bit?

Hi Lobster,
Running a Stainless steel prop, 14 3/4 X 18, tried the Ali 17 that came with the motor, was'nt happy with it rev out to 6000 + OK but thought I should be getting more speed, changed to Ali 19, dropped back in revs and still did'nt improve the speed, then Mother decieded to run across the boat ramp with the motor trimed down, that prop was not a pretty sight, so bit the bullet and took the advice of the Solas guys, went to a stainless 18, and now getting 6000+revs and getting up to 75/80 km P/Hr, all depending on what the water is like.
Yep, have done 120hrs now and its geting better each trip.
Hope to catch with you when your across this way!!!

Thanks for all who have responded to the question.
I have ordered the boat with a 175 Suzi fourstroke as better safe than sorry in the power dept.
Is nearly...........here just some teething problems with what the dealership have provided that needs to be ironed out prior to delivery. This is the first (an will probably be the last) vehicle of any type I have purchased new. It is amazing how useless the dealerships are in just making sure you get what you ask for.
Will update on how she goes once delivered and run in.... 8-)

I have the same engine in my sights for a future "Project".
