I can't find the answer to this in my manual so I was wondering if someone could let me know what the correct size of fuel line (not length) I should be using for a 1978 Evinrude 115hp. My current fuel line is 8mm but I wonder if it should be 10mm?

pwoida,
8mm up to 130 and 10mm above for 2 stroke carbies.
Going to 10mm will o0nly be beneficial tho

it should not make a differcnce mate from 10 mm to 8mm in an outboard carby jets arn't that big

it should not make a differcnce mate
and why is this mr Logan?
Do you not think that if his tank is a long way from the engine he would benefit from a larger than normal fuel line

I run 1/2 inch from the tank to the filter and 10mm from the filter to the engine. The longer the fuel line the bigger the diameter required because of the friction over the lenth of smaller line

Sorry mate, but fuel lines are critical on 2 strokes.
he has an older V4 known to be quite thirsty and 8mm would be right on the limit for his engine. If his fuel system wasnt 100%it would show up straight away and I dont think you would find too many 1978 engines that have a 100% fuel system ;)
Sure the manual for that engines states an 8mm line (5/16 to be exact) but I said he would only benefit from a 10mm line :)

what fillter mircon rating are u running on ur primary fuel fitter ? that could be a problem if the engine isn't running great if u are having a problem which i don't think u are, if u already hav 8 mm fuel line onboard stick with it

I'm not running an external fuel filter. The only fuel filtration is the mesh screen inside the fuel pump.
I am a scientist but I don't have much of a head for physics so I don't know if I need a larger diameter or not. I'll let you guys discuss it caus healthy debate can only result in the truth.

Pwoida,
you are commiting a sin by not having a water trap/primary filter. The biggest killer in the performance/running quality stakes on a boat is dirty fuel or water in the fuel. Spend a few $$ and put a good water trap/filter on
IT will it save you a few $$$ in the long run and maybe a few trips to a mechanic.
No sense if going to all the trouble of cleaning carbs pumps ect and then gettin them dirty again ;)

Point taken Garry, I've gotta admit though, the fuel screen is certainly doing its job caus when I pulled the fuel pump apart there was heaps of crap trapped in there. I guess water is a different story so I'll look into getting a filter.
Peter.
