I was crossing the Gateway Bridge this morning round 6am or so.

Heading north......looked to the east and down towards Rivergate, I could see a big big big yacht mast sticking almost a bit above the bridge height near the southern side.

Must be one hell of a yacht. Has anyone been near Rivergate marina lately and seen what sort it is? I know there has been a 60mt job there this week, but it is a motor cruiser. The mast i saw would have made it under the bridge in the middle, but man it looked a big mast....any clues or anyone seen it from the wwaterline? Or did i overdose on caffeine with the coffee this morning?

Oh yeah, i would think a big big exclusion zone as well round the submarine HMAS Rankin that is in port at the moment. havent heard where it's moored, but no doubt the WAter police and security will be tight round it. Anyone been on ther river and seen ther sub?

Might go get a pic from rivergate this arvo...... i think its the 60mts one they interviewed the skipper in the paper the other day.

he said the owner wants to sell it (all 60mts of it) cause it was too small. And i think he mentioned they have bookings for it....at $533,000.00 per week.

Unbelievable

Not think anyone wants rent this yacth for a half million dollars a week... :-[
For that amount to rent super yacth is likely the great golfer Greg's 70m... ;)
Ahhh...I think this better one is Paul Allan's 120m yacth 'Octopus' armed with 2 helicopters and a 60-foot submarine... 8-)

Ok heres the goss........

I went down to River gate marina this afternoon, to see what the big mast was attached to.

Hubba Hubba, woo hoo, oh my god that is one hell of a boat and a half. It is a sailing yacht....... I actually got to walk right up to it and speak to the crew who were spritzing it up nice and shiny. HAving a final tidy up and fittings finsihed.

It is brand spanner new. A nice shiny black....... ;D
It is a New Zealand vessel. ;D
Name of the vessel is Kokomo. ;D
Length 170ft - correct 170ft....that is not a typo error ;D :-?
The mast is 65 metres or 205ft from deck to top - no wonder i could almost touch it from the bridge ;D :-?

The vessel is absolutely unbelievable. Silent, leave for work a few minutes early tomorrow morning, drive into River Gate marina and walk down the marina and have a look........ man what a vessel...man what a mast..........................

The other vessel i mentioned above is there...some 150ft motor cruiser...... called helios, something to do with the sun god i think.....

The yacht? It is off to the Whitsundays in a couple of days. Get down and have a look ......incredible vessel.

Oh yeah, did someone mention an aussie sub is in port? Did i say the yacht was not a bad size???? :o ::) :P ;) ;D

Will try and get some close up pics tomorrow morning and post them on here

Mike,

Your detail is correct as my colleague went and had a close look and saying me it's impression huge yacht and told the owner Lang walker a big developer in Gold coast. The reason the yacht can't moore at Goldy too big!.....umm... don't understand that owner says too small for him? :-?
I'll pay a visit there tomorrow on my way to work...

Cheers

The owner of the motor cruiser helios, moored at the other end of River Gate is the one who says hes selling cause its too small.

The yacht with the mast , Kokomo, is brand new so dont see the owners selling to soon

IMHO it is one impressive yacht...... dont think brisbane has seen one like that before........certainly not a sailing yacht anyway

Silent, did you notice the Helios motor cruiser at the other end of the marina? That is also an impressive vessel.

jeeeeeeeeeeesus, that's massive. i thought scandia was the biggest yacht i've ever seen when i scooted past it at easter out in the bay, but that thing takes the cake. it looks like it would be one hell of a lot more comfy than a racing boat too, i bet it's got all the mod cons :o

yep, pretty impressive. i had a quick look on their website afetr i first saw this thread yesterday and that new marine precinct in fairly close proximity to the centre of town is an awesome concept (targetting superyachts), something that brissy has needed for quite some time.

This is it , I took this photo on Hamilton Island a few years ago .
This is Kokomo 1 and 2 , he another 8 of them , he is a property developer , just finished building a home on the coast with deep water at the back door so he can moor and one of them there

From memory the mast is 39m high , it was the tallest in Hamilton Island harbour.
Both the Yacth and ship have full time staff, every morning I was there they did a morning wipe down even if they didn;t leave port
