Hey guys, went for a stroll at the Mulgrave this afternoon expecting to see a bit of action with some heavy cloud cover and occasional bursts of rain. After my last trip there I was very optimistic of getting onto some sooty and jp. However, it took about 1hr of treking before I saw a fish ::). My first hookup came quite a distance upstream and felt very solid. It took drag slowly without alot of commotion while I just stood there expecting to see one of those huge jps explode out of the water. Instead I was surprised to see a bronze red colour rise from the water hole below. Never expected a jack to be lurking this far upstream. So I got a few pics and kept casting. Still no sooties! next fish was a jp...a little feller but a very good fight for its size. Suddenly it seemed the sooties wanted to play, the next half an hour saw many strikes but only 3 fish landed (all piss small). I looked at my watch expecting it to be 4ish, turns out I only had 90mins of daylight left :o. I started the walk back expecting the big sooties to come out for a pre-evening onslaught as they often do. However, they weren't really feeding aggressively, only 3 more falling victim. It was weird to get so little sooty action after the previous trip, they seemed to be holding in different areas and boiling behind the lure rather than taking. Here are the pics:

Thanks guys,
Rob- theres no way I'd take 80lb Gorilla braid that far upstream unless I had gloves.
Steve- The funny thing is I can still clearly read the stamp, wasn't easy getting accurate casts when seeing double.

They are great pics and fish - especially the jack up in the fresh.
