Went up to Lake MacDonald last weekend with some other A.B.A members for our monthly outing...the saturday morning started off slow...but things picked up very quickly!...then dies off just as quick.

Fished the long bank to the left of the scout camp boatramp with no result...then headed for the spot the produced a 51cm last year. And true to form, it produced again.

About the 5th cast, I got a solid bump half way through the retrieve...slowed it down, let the jackall stay there longer was the thought...and it worked. Hooked up to a monster. Finally in the boat and measured in at 52cm. A new personal best for me. Into the livewell so I could show (boast) to other members.

The very next cast and I got slammed right away. Barely had enough time to engage the reel. Straight back into the weeds and I was gone...I tried pulling her out using the rod, but it only made the boat turn...So I hit the bowmount and skull dragged her out of the weed. Once out she headed for deep water. BIG head thumps and I was in heaven.

Into the net, safe and secure on board...a quick measure and there I was holding a 53cm Bass no longer than 5 minutes after I caught a 52cm bass. It couldnt get any better than this...and it didnt.

For the rest of the weekend I struggled...a southerly change came through which pretty much shut everything down! But who cares...I already had my fun ;D ;D

My daughter also got a nice 43cm Bass, bouncing a plastic along the bottom whilst drifting. Its just a shame she wasnt holding the rod at the time....it seems drawing pictures was more important at the time. But she was quick with the "its my rod, let me reel it in"

Nice Bass.

What type of jackall were you using

Its called 'blue gill' in the TN60 range. But I dont think it would of made much difference either way...because I tried usingone earlier that is a better match to a bony but to no avail. These 2 fish were hungry and probably would of eaten any jackall I threw at them.

Nice Bass x 2. I live within a half hour of Lake MacDonald but have never fished it. By pass it to go to BP and Lentalls. Guess I'll have to rethink that after seeing the 53cm.

PS Can you camp there?

yer we (the ABA) camp at the scout camp grounds which are located right on the dam, just near the cod hatchery.

The facilities are excellent with a communal kitchen (with HUGE fridge, gas BBQ, and stove). You have access to power around the camp grounds...and all this for only $4/person/night.

Its a BARGAIN!

heres a link to the scout campgrounds...their contact details are on there
