Arrived at McGavin View sometime before 5.00am and met up with Shaun & Brandon.
No time to waste so off we go towards the wall to find the fish. With this being my first time chasing Bass i was keen to wet a line and see how the others did it.
Within the hour there was a line of Ausfishers flicking an assortment of lures in search of a fish.Turned out to be a rather quiet time with the fish not wanting to come to the party in any numbers.
Brandon was the first to land a fish and a healthy 53 cm Bass

http://www.inaneasylum.org/users/2DKnB/Pine/2006_1112image0005.jpg

As it turned ouy the fish took a liking to Brandons lures and he was next to land a nice Silver Perch.Didn't get a pic of the fish but here is one of him in action

http://www.inaneasylum.org/users/2DKnB/Pine/2006_1112image0007.jpg

My only fish for the day was a Talapia caught on a 3" minnow in pumpkinseed

Carl managed to land an absolute monster Bass on a 4" plastic.

Here are a couple of the crew.

About 8.30 time was called on the fishing and to get on with the job we came for. With about ten of us armed with bags and gloves we set off to clean this area up.Surprising some of the rubish you can find.Everything from 80 pound line :o ::) to 20 year old coke bottles.

Once we had finished it was time for a feed and a chinwag.

All in all it was a great day with a few fish caught and plenty of tips for fishing the dam.Good to meet a few more Ausfishers Shaun,Brandon ,Carl ,John,Phill,Myles and the others.Sorry guys for not rembering your names.

Thanks to Shaun for organising a top day and thanks to the local guys for the food that was supplied for the day.

Cheers Dazza, good to meet you mate, also good to finally meet Brandon and catch up with Shayne and John again. Good chatting to Myles, Jason and Luc also.
Shayne, well done for organising all the food and equipment we needed and rubbish pick up etc. Much good Khama for you mate.
Aparently we have been supplied with some prizes for a photo comp for the day, so please post your snaps here if you want to enter them in the comp and I'll put up a poll so we can all vote for the one we think is the best. There's a few prizes, but I'll let Shayne explain where they came from and what's up for grabs.
Great to see a good turn out, I guesstimate about 15 people at one stage, not all could stay for the pick up, but it was great to see a good group of ausfishers out having a bash at landing a bass and having a good yarn.
Pats on backs to all those that put the effort in to march around in the sun picking up 20 years of people's crap, I think a few of us were surprised that there wasn't more rubbish there, and its a whole lot cleaner tonight thanks to your efforts.

It was a top morning and great to finally put a few more faces to some names on here. Again to my never ending amazement every person you meet off of Ausfish is pretty good value to spend some time with. It's was very heartening to see so many fishos who care about the local water ways giving up their time to try and make a little difference to the place. Some weird and wonderful gear got collected, no needles thankfully and also thankfully only the condom packets were to be found. :D Daz got catch of the day with the little rattlin' spot he found on the end of 30m's of fishing line.

As for Brandon H, I was there when he caught the first bass and let me tell you it was a complete accident, so were the other ones that followed. In fact he is one of the most accident prone fisherman I've ever met. ;D What he did do though is yet again prove the effectiveness of those bloody jackalls in the hands of someone who knows how to throw a lure.

As stated earlier Sundown has given us a prize pack for the day, so in a few days when all the photos are up we can set up a poll for best photo for one pack and I'll organise a random draw for the other pack. Needless to say each pack contains one of those bloody jackalls that go so good on the bass at the dam.

There was talk of another m and g without a cleanup for Jan. maybe tied in with the redclaw, anyone interested?

It was a great morning at the dam with excellent company!! Was great to put some more names to faces and have a fishy chat with some Ausfisher’s :)

Shayne, Great organising mate ;) you outdid yourself!! The amount of food you organised was unbelievable!! I am sorry you didn’t get a fish mate. You certainly deserved one with the effort you put in :'( hopefully next time ;) if your not too upset with me for catching all the fish this time let me know when your dropping in for an arvo session next and I will be there with my Jackall’s :P Lol.

Myles, yeah I know!! I was going to get rid of it but thought I have so many pics of me holding fish with a smoke hanging outa my gob I might as well add a bass pic to that collection!!! Lol maybe I should post a thread with all my fishing pics with a smoke hanging outa my gob? Might put some younger fisho’s off starting up hey?? :-X Lol..
Was great to meet you and find out soooo much info on the area around the dam! Will be making a snake/pig/discarded ammo stick for my hiking around the dam now ::)

Dazza n Son, Was good to meet you and have a chat mate. Thanks for taking the pics of my bass for me!! I am without a camera until after Christmas so I am told :P
Although you only ended up with the one fish it was a brute of a Talapia and the first I have seen caught on plastics ;) Was a little upset that the gent behind you (in the pic) didn’t know what it was >:( you can actually see me pointing in the background as I am telling him that Talapa is a noxious fish and must NOT go back into the water. Lol.

Karl, Was good to finally catch up and have a chat!! How was the paddle after I left? It really looks fishy down that stretch of water ;) Make sure you let me know next time you’re down this way so we can have a fish :)

JasonT, will get a trip organised soon mate :) standing outside my office this morning I couldn’t believe how hot it is!! There certainly should be some Jacks lurking around for us to find ;) Was good to meet your daughter also and great to see her keen to help clean up!!

To everyone else it was great to catch up and put a face to the names :) Thanks for putting in the effort for the cleanup it was a really good cause and I think we did very well to collect the amount of rubbish we did!!

Can’t wait for the rest of the pics to come in, I just hope there isn’t any more of me [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] Lol..

Well done guys. And some great pics too. Work prevented me being there yesterday, and it seems you all had a chance for a fish, feed and a bit of a yarn. I hope to meet you all down the track sometime.

Man that was a fun day - we have to do it again!
Cheers Shayne for your top work. It was a great effort mate to organise it all and have everything go as well as it did!
The food was awesome and the company exceptional!

I wanted to stay and chat longer, but I could see Chloe was getting a little restless and after the effort she put in I thought an icecream was in order as a reward fro her excellent behaviour!
She didn't even get put off the clean up when ran into some of the local wildlife! (a big brown snake!)

Brandon - will have to get one of theose snake/pig sticks off you :-)
Mate, I'm keen to chase jacks as soon as you're willing..
Looking at doing a pine trip tuesday night (for flatty / bream)

It was great to catch up with a few people and put faces to the names.
I can't remember all of the names, but I'm sure I'll recognise you should we meet on the water!

Thanks again for a good day Shayne! Hopefully when we do it again we will see a marked decline in the amount of rubbish left there!

PS: have pics will post them tonight from home!

Hey Jason,
Compliments to the little deckie, she was a great help on the clean up and showed great patience with a bunch of boring blokes standing around talking about fishing. Brandon that was a stonker bass mate, when you do up that pig stick see if you can't make it a .30-06 type, hey?
Special mention for bearclaw, jason and freeeedom who couldn't make the fish but still helped tidy up. :)

Someone had photos of a toga as well that'll be good to see.

Hi guys,
Sorry I couldn't make it to give yas a hand. The Mrs had organised a surprise trip to Seaworld with the family. She thought it was gonna be just another fishin trip for me,And wasn't aware of the trouble that others had gone to,To organise this day.She even went to the trouble of booking me in for a swim with the fishes :D.

Congratulations to all Ausfishers involved,Especially Shayne.

Looks like it was a fun mornin with some nise fish caught aswell.

Not to mention making a great spot clean and safe for others to enjoy.

Although I had a great day....I'm sorry I missed it.

Hi all,

Good to put faces to names. Was only able to attend the barbie but it was great to get out of the house after being grounded since Wednesday.

Well organised by Shayned. How was the paddle? Did you go below the dam or Youngs?

January M&G sounds good.

Luc, we were both pretty stuffed by the time we got to young's and decided to leave the fishing gear in the car, had a bit of a paddle up stream, then hit the road. The good news is, Shayne didn't fall out, and I reckon he was getting a bit more steady on the yak by the time we got back to the cars. You'll get there big fella. ;)

shayned
14-11-2006, 08:10 AM
More importantly than not falling out, I got to see how you turn a yak around without needing space the size of a football field. :-[ ;D It was also good spotting some fish in skinny water, those kayaks are very, very sneaky.

what was the toga caught on

2DKnBJ

the guy that caught the Toga wasn't with us but i did see him using a spinner bait and was also using plastics.

Cheers Dazza

BrandonH
14-11-2006, 02:46 PM
I am pretty sure he got it on a spinner bait. saw him using a purple one not long before getting the toga.
I think to get on to a toga in north pine you have to put in the time. there isn't many in there.. Yet ;)

get a popper out there around some surface action at dawn and dusk would be your best bet to get one I reckon. Will be trying this myself sometime next week...
They arn't worth keeping though, skinny and full of bones. better to go back for someone else to have fun with 8-)

Shayned & Canoedle,

Glad you enjoyed the paddle. Only need a bit of practice to master the kayack enough for a good fish.

If you're interested, I'm aiming for a morning session this Saturday (subject to the wheather) probably the Caboolture river above the weir.

Just been back at the site of the clean up, walked the area with my eldest daughter and we picked up 2 and 1/2 shopping bags of rubbish. 99% of it came from just under the picnic area. I couldn't believe it less than 6 days, also found a sea eagle which appears to have swallowed a fish hook and died, plus a turtle which met the same fate. Might have to do another clean up at Forgans Grove looked pretty messy down there.

Bloody disgusting isn't it mate. >:(
Must be to damn hard for people to take their rubbish with them.Makes you wonder if some of these people have boats and if they leave all their crap in the boat after a trip or more than likely throw it over the side.
You can count me in at any clean up around there.
