Fireline

Ihaven't tried it yet, but is is OK to fish in salt water with lines like fireline, or will this stuff it?

Lines such as fireline, bionic braid, power pro, spiderwire and the many others that are available, are made from Polyethylene and are very inert to a lot of chemicals and substances.
Saltwater won’t effect your fireline, so there’s no need to worry.

Thanks for the answer, I just wasn't sure if I could use this type of line or not. I'm going to Torquay in Jan and gunna use some 20lb braided line.

Once you've fished with braid, you'll never go back to mono. The sensitivity it gives you is amazing. I can't go without it anymore ;D ;D

same here i fish in saltwater with 20lb fireline and its awsome, it will never brake b4 the leadfer. it is dear $25 for 125 yards but worth it. cheers

Yeah, the braided line is great. I use 8lb in freshwater and it is thinner, yet stronger than mono line.

I would also recommend the fireline. It seems to be holding up well on my overhead/s. Its also one of the more reasonably priced braid/fusion lines.

Has anyone done any specific break tests on the stuff, like 20/30/50. I know it is suypposed to break abouve the figure on the spool but by how much. Max

Steve 0oi, how about getting down to Erko's and doing some tests on the stuff, might be interesting in the SWF running line stakes. For the record you can get a Loctite oxidising agent to put on GsP, like Fireline, that allows you to glue it with Loctite 406. Cheers Ows it going over there.? Max

all or most of the bream fishos use fireline of some kind in saltwater but it can get fraied if it drags on pilons or reefs or sumthing

Re the break test, got hooked onto a tree fishing the fiinis and was able to pull the boat back up stream against the current to retrieve the lure, saved starting the motor and ruining my mates fihsing, normal line would have snaped.

Carefull when pulling the knots tight I have cut my hands on the braid.

Got my first spool of fireline the other day - 20Lb. Backshot the Abu 6500C4 with cheap 11kg Mono and tied an Albright onto the 125yds of Fireline.

Spooled up the fireline and then attached a swivel with a locked blood knot (12 turns) and attached a 35Lb mono leader. Tied a figure of eight loop on the end of the leader and put it over a post and loaded up.

After a genuine struggle to get a break, the figure of eight gave way. No sign of knot slip on the fireline and it never felt like it was going to fail. In fact the tension on the fireline was so great that it dug it's way down into the spool and we had to run it out and re-spool the reel so it woudn't stick.

Very impressive stuff! ;D

Yeah, the stuff frays anyway just through general wear and tear. I dont like putting sinkers on it, i use preset hooks to stop it fraying a bit more.
