Hi all,
As the Title suggest, I'm going uip there for a week... I just posted this in regards to what sort of gear i should bring?
I'm not planning to go charter as I am going with a group.... Maybe just off a jetty somewhere off a Jetty and other landbased applications... Maybe flick a few SP around etc...
Any help is apprectiated on what to bring....

I can give you a basic run down the Cairns land based scene. Drop me and PM and I'll give you some basic info.

Try a 15kg handline or two and a rod spooled with up to 10kg line. A handfull of gold bombers wouldn't go astray. A good landing net, hookout, cast net and l'bait bucket and a crab pot or 4 and plenty of rum(mossie repellent).
Between Cairns and Daintree there are many places to drop a line off a rocky headland or beach as the highway follows the coast and the Palm Cove jetty is always worth a visit.
Any of the gutters running seawards from the Cairns esplanade boardwalk is worthy of a bait on a high tide as you can catch some good jacks and salmon etc whilst watching the world walk by.
The Barron fishing bridge just a short walk from the Stratford pub is always worth a go, I have seen some good catches from there.
You can follow the pathway from the southern end of the boardwalk East past the Cement Pond and the wharf @ the end is a good spot too.
There is ample Whale watching around the Cement Pond which is a bonus too.
Head off on the Yarrabah road(turn left past Edmonton heading south) and there are some spots under the bridges worth a soak and there is good beach fishing and an occasional muddy around a spot called second beach.
The Deeral Landing area past Fishery Falls(about 10 mins south) is also worth a visit. There is a grassed area and shady trees beside the launching ramp into the Mulgrave river(fresh at this spot) and is a good spot to soak a bait but you have to be careful as a big lizard frequents this area.
That will keep you busy for a month at least!
A visit to ANY of the tackle shops in the Cairns area is always a hive of information on whats biting & where too.
cheers baldy
