Went out on Friday and too rought to fish the front of Moreton so we had an early night and gave New Years celebrations the flick hopeing for an early start on Saturday.
Saturday was a great day with Hutchies looking like boat city. We tried a bit of trolling with Hex Heads, resin heads, minnows and after no success attempted some bottom bashing and managed only a few reefies. We pulled the pin about 1pm and coming back to yellow patch came across some Manta Rays in about 6 metres of water, travelling in single file, heading for the cape. So we turned around for a look remembering that Cobia travel with them and sure enough spotted a couple with the lead Manta Ray. I drove ahead of their line of travel and threw un unweighted squid bait and immediately they came out and took the bait. This must have upset the Rays as they formed a circle around the Cobia before moving off a short distance. We took two to around 8 kegs and left the rest. I think there were about six or so. Never seen that before and had my heart racing. Wind blew up Saturday afternoon and Sunday was much the same although I heard some of the Game Boats did o.k.
Like to know if anyone did o.k. on the Saturday????

We often have rays come up with the cobia on the Barwons - they sure are an interesting fish! ::)
