Gidday,
Friends of ours have brought land at Burrum Heads and I was wondering if any one knows how the fishing is around this area?
Also what are the main fish caught?
Thanks,
Peter

I when there on hoildays as kid you manly catch bread & butter species of fish & mackeral turn up there too in season
The burrum river is good fish in it has 3 other rivers run in to it not bad for catching good feed of prawns .
Tell your friends to get copy of HOOKED IN PARADISE mag (about $24 ) it has areas mark what types fish you can catch in the locations around burrum heads & just remember on the door step of great fishing location of Hervey Bay & Fraser Island

I just spent a week at Burrum Heads over Christmas. Unfortunately I had boat motor problems so didn't get to as many spots as I had hoped. However there are plenty of fish up there. The spot called Black Bank (northern bank opposite boat ramp) holds bream, trumpeter, trevally, etc. There are also reef fish around the mouth. The end of the main boat ramp holds good flathead. The outer reefs (woodgate artificial and burrum 8 mile) have macks, etc. Further upstream there are prawns and muddies.
Plenty of fish and options if you go looking - I miss it already!

land prices are so cheap up there compared with down here on the goldy. I saw water front canal estate up there for 115 a block other week. If only it was that cheap down here... :-/ .

Yes it is pretty cheap. You can buy a few acres for $100,000 close to the water. Do not know what the employment is like up there.

the real estate boomed up there over the last couple of years - probably double what it was 3 years ago. one house I looked at was asking $500,000 for average 3 bed weatherboard, one block back from river - cheap, I don't know.
but you picked the other problem, where do you work - a good 1/2 hour drive to Hervey Bay, and 45 mins to Maryborough...

House and land close to towns is dear but go out a bit but still close to the river and it is not too bad. But it should really go ahead in the next 10 years or so.

pete tell your friends or if you are up that way go to the tackle shop in burrum heads there an 8 mile reef at burrum that produces good pelagic fish and there are barra and plenty of mangrove jack in the burrum river. And even out the front of the caravan park they catch good whiting and flathead

No worries. They are going to the caravan park in about 2-3 weeks time so they will try for some whiting and flathead.
Thanks for that,
Peter
