I still get confused about this, same with some cod species. I am not sure God himself can exactly clarify whats going on with sweetlip (grassy's) / emporer being a coral reef fin fish or not. There have been previous posts about this. My advise is ring 5 DPI / fishery officers, get there names and just go with what the majority of them say.

Thanks Kleiny
Mate thats a great help it also makes my stomach turn a little I was fishing the bay on Monday & would have thrown at least a dozen back between 30-36cm I was just unsure and didn't want to risk it. But I still ended up with 3 over 40cm & probably got bricked by a few other better fish but I got a feed and know where to go for another
Thanks Jamie

The grassies are not included as part of your coral reef fin fish limit of 20.
As Kleiny says min size 30cm and no bag limit.
That was one of the confusing ones for a lot of people when the new regs first came out. In one part of the regs it states all emperor are coral reef fin fish, and then lists grassies (that are also emperor) in other tidal species. We have sorted things out since then and had it verified by several people from the dpi.
If you are ever unsure wether or not a fish is included as a coral reef fin fish, refer to the crff species list in schedule 2 of the managment plan. This list is reproduced on most of the regs brochures that have been handed out.

Regards, Tony
PS they are different to red throat emperor.
I do still have a few of the DPI waterproof fish guides, send me a pm if you want one.
