Got these in one of the latest fishing newspapers. The 'Maori Cod', no. 7, to me looks like a Purple Rock Cod but I guess people in that area may call them that.

The second link calls them Speckled Blue Grouper but

this was the link before with the common name.

What's also interesting about that is 4,5 and 8 are all reds although 4 is clearly a Large Mouth Nannygai. I think in this area the locals call them Red Jew so I guess that's ok. Nice reds too btw!

This topped it for me however. No. 2 is referred to as a big Nannygai. Looks like a Red Bass to me?

Definitely a Red Bass. This page was in the charter boats section of photos, bit scary :)

Spot on mark, definitely a bass, lol.
The large mouth nanny (silver) is nearly always marketed as a red jew.
The cod goes by a number of names, blue, purple, mouri or one i like the sound of is the champage cod.
some nice fish!!!...foxy

sorry about the spelling (champagne) cod. ;D
We always sold and marketed them as blue cod...

I was hoping you'd jump on this foxy! I used to call them blue cod too. I was telling Ron that when he caught this one and that the pros locally here call them Cattledog cod as they have the blue colour with flecks but apparently also nip the guys on the heels and feet when they jump in the big tanks with live trout!!
I've seen a few pics on this board of another Mouri Cod that's more brown and you guys down south get them. Yet to see one up this way.
Cheers, Mark.

Have caught both out of 1770. Known there as brown mouri and blue mouri. Blue mouri not so common and a little better eating maybe? Have seen guys swap a red for them.
