Keep hearing guys talk about goin to the baitgrounds on the way out. Hows it done, with a jig or what? Is it like a live herring jig used in esturies? Is it shallow enough for a cast net? How do you catch slimies and yakkas?

I assume most that leave GC seaway are going to the Scottish Prince or Narrowneck artificial reef, or do you all have secret spots?

Im about to start going out and will try the 18s a few times until I get the hang of it. Wouldnt mind a snappa or cobia, but first I need bait. I will take floating pillies as backup, but Id like some livies. Do I just buy a jig from my local fisho shop?

Thanks
Andrew

Bait jig only a couple of bucks at the tackle shop. Scot Prince usually holds bait.

Follow a charter boat out first thing in the morning - either that or look for the cluster of boats jigging out fron the pumping jetty.

Good Luck

Yeh, have a sound around about 1km SE of the mouth of the Seaway. Otherwise, as 3Vs said, early morning, the charter boats give it away ;) Use a biat jig.

Use a jig for your live bait just as you would for herring, they are exactly the same.

Leave the castnet at home when getting livies outside.

Once you find a school, lower your jig into the school. I like to spice them up a bit with a bit of pillie.

Jigs you can buy from any tackleshop, servo or store such as Kmart or Big W.

Grounds close to the seaway are

The Scottish Prince - Bearing 161 for 2.7km
12 Fathom bait grounds - Bearing 108 for 1.5km

Look for bait on your sounder, such as this.

Have you got a sounder pic for everything?

I take my hat off to your repertoire.

information above is excellent.....just be carefull....no point playing chicken with 60 ft plus charter boats......dont anchor up on bait if other boats r working the same spot for bait...theres enough for everyone.......just take ur turn and be patient...
