View Full Version : Flounder size limit?
Hi All,
I have been looking around for a size limit on flounder but haven't had any luck. I hooked one the other day around 35cm mark but didn't keep it because I didn't know the size limit. They can be a tasty feed so if anyone knows what the limit is (if there is one), let me know.
cheers

Mate, I dont think there is one in Qld. I've also looked all over the place and cant find mention of it.
The DPI website doesnt say anything so I guess its open slather according to your needs.

ditto in NSW waters no size limmit however you would want to be able to get some meat off it
would think 35cm would of been fine however and i kept one around that size a couple off weeks back after i got it on a soft plastic
tasted fine to me and was plenty of meat on it ;)
Yeah, didn't think there was a size limit, because I looked around for a while and couldn't find one. I guess its not really a fish that is deliberately caught. I think I'll set myself a personal size limit of around 35cm. :)

The only thing i have that is close is the sole limit of 20cm. Ive caught a few and just stuck to that.

flounder and sole (sea tongues as the dutch say) are excellent table fish - they are both highly regarded here and I rank them pretty high. I'm fairly certain there is no size limit on flounder in Qld, and I can not recall any mention of it in the limits.
In Holland they have really neat ways of skinning both species, and its done in about 3 seconds no joke.

The proposed size limits currently under discussion in NSW are suggesting a size limit of 25 cm.

In Melbourne, where most Flounder comes from it's 23cm . SA is (No length limit) Tassie 25cm. They seem not to be listed in Qld, but unless you are spearing them, you will not catch many with a rod, and I'd say 30cm would be fine. They are a delicious fish.

I caught one a few weeks back in Cabbage Tree Creek, about 32cm, and you're right, bloody tasty...
Got him on a 3" Pearl Watermelon Power Bait.
