The 'pin is a generalised term referring to the area proximal to the Jumpinpin Bar, which, as beefaman said, seperates North and South Stradbroke Islands. 'The Pin' can refer to any one of the various channels and creeks meandering through the region.
(prim and proper) DC ;D

If ya havn't got a Beacon to Beacon, get one ;) it will help ya miss the myriad of sandbars around the area when you leave from either Jacobs Well or Cabbage Tree. Either that or PM ausfish member 'stubbie' he seems to know where most of the sandbars are :-X ;D ;D ;D

Chillers mate, Don't put *too* much faith in the Beacon to Beacon.......it's a guide only and nothing beats practical experience/observation. The sandbars are always shifting particularly around the Gold Bank area. Keep your eyes peeled and most of them can be seen. Don't pass too close to the beacons and keep mid channel wherever possible. A couple of those beacons were set back on the banks (bank creep) last time I went down there. That said, it's not as hazardous as I am making it sound if you just keep your eyes peeled. Your biggest danger will likely be the Bertrams with the skippers in blue canvas shoes and hat ;D

been going to the Pin since 1968....some things have changed down there...but there are still fish to be caught. One of the biggest pains in the butt when trying to catch some fish is all the bloody boat traffic. Not so much during the day but at night..even in the middle of bream season..some blokes will move every 10 minutes...instead of being patient...they were in the right spot to catch fish but nope..gotta move 50 metres away..start the motor...move some more...someone should tell them bream are skittish fish...gotta be quiet when seriously after them.

I forgot to mention one very important thing...the secret to successful fishing at the Pin..without this you have no hope..ask Touchy and Phill..they will agree..you must have a bottle of Green Ginger Wine on board.
