Having gotten into surf fishing, I have been keen to experiment with several different types of surf gear. There was a thread on here about surf poppers, so I thought I'd try to buy some in Brisbane.

Tried Jones Taclke at Lutwych and Capn Blighs at Tingalpa, where each gave me the strangest looks and tried to sell me a "normal" topwater blooping popper.......nothing like a surf popper

After explaining what they looked like, one of the stores found them in a suppliers catalogue, but it seems even the pro's don't know much about them.

Does anyone know where they can be bought around Brissie?? :-/

Ok trying to track down some pics - my Google research shows they are a fly fishermans surf lure.

The ones used down south, mostly red/white or blue/white are dist by EJ TODDS or CLARKSON IMPORTS.

Any good store should be able to get hold of them, or buy teh popper boddies, some flash material and some popper hooks and make your own, that way upou can experi with dif colors.

They do work as tehy keep your bait suspended and flappin about in teh current, yu may loose a little casting distance though

thanks fishingnottaken, thats precicely what I saw

the Ebay ad says "These surf poppers are excellent for catching most species on the surf beaches and work really well fished from boats also. These poppers retail for at least $4.00 each at tackle stores."

So I'm keen to get some and try them out

I saw a good variation on a rig recently , A slug as the terminal item, about 18 inches above that a short dropper loop with a large fly attached, the guy using it said it was deadly.

Just picked one up from the dreaded "A" store in Indooroopilly (as part of a complete Geoff Wilson Rig) and got 20 from Ebay for $22.

Hope to test them out over the next few weeks and will give a report when I've had an opportunity to give em a fair trial

You can give these a try as well
We used them with great success in SA casting from the beach and off ledges for tailor, kingies and GT's . They cast like a bullet and run with a zigzag action on the surface.
Give Brad Job a call on 0414287455 or look for them at the stores on the gold coast.
