After fishing 99% freshwater for last 50 years I have given up until the rains come. So on Sat I tried the mouth of the Logan(Not really fresh but close) .Caught lotsa catties which the big W which would have produced better and bigger. Starting to sulk a bit now.

Apart from the mossies which fed on me I got nothing until late in the afternoon when I hooked something really big. After 10 minutes and still not in the boat I had no idea what it was. Eventually it pulled the hooks and got away.

That's it - Now I am hooked!

Had to go back Sunday to try again. Three flathead one of which was nearly 50 cms - very nice for a salty beginner

Gee whiz - Cabbage Tree is busier than Somerset! On Sunday had to drive on to Jacob's Well then come back up river.

I think I need a new rod... ;)

at the very mouth to the right there are mud flats with tones of yabbies on them. Buy a yabbie pump and get fresh bait makes a huge difference, usually catch about 30 whiting and a few tailor on a lazy day. and if youve never pumped yabbies thats alot of fun in itself!
