Hey all, was fishing in the GC seaway on Saturday night. Didn't catch much but its what I didn't catch that has me stumped. There was A LOT of surface action to the side of the main channel near the big old barg near the Spit. I only had bream gear with me but i put a lure on anyway and had a go. Got nothing the first few casts but eventually something nailed it and took off, after waiting while it swam the english channel it slowed down and I regained some line only for it to take off again and break me off? Thaught it might have been Kingies hitting baitfish but another fisherman said it could have been tuna or salmon. Any suggestions? Has anyone been catching fish that have been hitting the surface in frenzies?

Mate, exactly a week ago, was fishing exactly the same spot, one of the beacons in the same channel as the barge, probably only 100 metres away from it! Saw surface acction, and we had the heavy gear as we were planning to chase jewwies. Put a slug on and we nailed 3 big eye trevally. I'd say there are your culprits. We too thought they may have been mackeral, kingies or salmon before we boated them.
Cheers

Those trevally go like theres no tomrrow. They put up an awesome fight on the heavy gear... big runs and diving for the beacons. A fish that size on the bream gear would GO OFF!!! Haha have caught plenty of slightly smaller versions of these fish on the bream gear and they put up an awesome fight!
