Can anyone offer any advice on when to go crabbing in Moreton bay for blue swimmer crabs. Everyone I have asked seems to have a different idea and none seem to work all that well for me yet. Things I have been told before are: All of run in tide on big high; Not when the moon is full; When there is no movement in the water etc. I can't seem to get any strait advice that is consistent.

I'm catching a few every time I go out and place 8 pots with mullet bait, but certainly can't seem to get a bag full - even when I baby sit the pots to make sure I don't get my crabs raided by the crab thieves.

I've found that the incoming tide is the key for me, soon as it turns I have no luck.
So like to have my pots out about 3 - 4 hours before high tide.

Have had a bit of sucess around Mud mostly on the run in tide.Try the
Nth/W and Western side in 3 to 4 m water.Have been using chicken necks as bait

I prefer a rising tide just after dawn. Since I mostly fish the northern bay I find that Deception Bay and the banks off Bribie are pretty reliable. Used to always do well on the northern side of Peel before the price of petrol made my trips shorter

Does it matter what stage of the lunar cycle? Is full moon, or new moon, better, or in the middle of the cycle. Are big incoming tides the answer, or just medium tides with slower current flow the go????

Its easy trublue - go fishing for 12 hours - two tide changes - more crabs and more fishing time he he

Guess you are from the mexican side of the big line on the map???
They are 'sandies' up here. ;D
Mickstar has the right idea.
Years ago I used to fish with a couple of mates and we would do from dawn till about 1pm. 3 or 4 drops and move around a little till we found a good area. Usualy there will be a few boats around. Yep the time between is good fishing time. We never lost any this way as you cold anchor up within sight of your drops.
Good luck.
