I am new to the areaand have just bought a 4.6 stacer with 50hp. I am looking to fish the Pumistone passage and Moreton Bay area. Can anyone give me some advice on spots and techniques. Also if I was heading out into the Bay what sort of weather is the best to be heading out in and what is the weather that I just keep the boat at home. Any advice would be great.

Hiya rabster
Welcome to the site. This board has all the gurus on Moreton Bay and surrounds. 8-)
There's lots of good fishing around the Northern end of the Bay, but first you probably need to be a bit more specific. Where will you launch from and what do you want to chase? There's quite a range of species from whiting to tuna.
If you don't know the Bay at all, take it easy on your first few trips. Stick to days when there's less than 10 knotts until you know your way around. There are lots of shallow areas with large sandbanks that can get very ugly when the wind, tide and swell are working against each other. I've seen it go from flat to hairy in less than an hour.
By comparison the passage, is somewhat safer. I don't fish it much, so others can probably give you better information.

Hi rabster,
Welcome aboard buddy. One of the first things I would suggest you do is buy a beacon to beacon book and work out where you want to go. The bay is a big place and sometimes you need to think about how much fuel you have on aboard before heading abroad. The pumistone is a good place to fish. I know quite a few areas up that way that produce fish. Give us a postmark and I can tell you a bit about the donnybrook area if you like.....
cheers.

Hi Rabster,
You can get a great A3 double sided laminated map of the passage.
Also, I you keep an eye out for Bush N Beach nd Qld Fishing & Boating Monthly, they have regular reports and how to on the areas you're interested in.
You might even consider joining a fishing club.
