Hey Smacka;
I had a similar experience in the noosa river lately - Fished with live prawns which cost me a dollar each and caught nothing, meanwhile I used some bread roll on another rod, same tackle, same time - and bingo - 2 nice bream and a 46cm sand flathead... interesting huh!

I've caught bream on carrot in the upper reaches of the logan. In those parts I found carrot and bread caught more fish than flesh baits! We would then use the whole live bream for bull shark bait.
Cheers.

were you at the bedroom or at the surf beach over the sandhill from the bedroom? I often overnight in the bedroom when fishing the beach....rarely catch anything worthwile on the "calm" side although have seen some good surface action...but the beach is virtually a guaranteed feed

we were on the calm side of the island. but took a walk to the surf and it was miles too rough and windy to throw a line in. Hopefully next time.

I have caught legal fish on the calm side, but nothing too exciting. There are some monster rays there however.
If you hit the beach on a good day, there are some outstanding fish in the gutters, have pulled in some excellent tailor, bream over 40cm, flatties, dart etc.
I am hoping to pull a mulloway out of there this year.
