STH PASSAGE

hey,
new to water, first boat 3 mths now have"nt sunk it,doing well,asked a mid age guy that i meet at peel, about crossing passage,No Worries his reply, been doing it for 15 years not a problem,il go first you stick behind a bit,hour and half before high tide,off we go im excited and concerned, his boat in front did a complete u turn without turning it himself 50 ft ahead of mine,i stoped,,he then dumb founded cum back said well try another day cya,is there a way to cross,., with knowing what your doing or just luck ,,good advice wood be good,,
