Halco laser pro 190's are pretty much all we use up here for trolling for mackerel, fluro green/yellow, blue/purple or gold are all good colours. Or any metal slugs for casting.

Halco Scorpion Crazy Deep (5M+ and 8M+) in red/white, and fluro multi colour. ;)
the blue fox Mackeral Mauler - its 18cm long - in gold - is an awesome deep water lure for mackeral too ;)

Add to them Lively Lures' Blue Pilly and Rapala Magnums.

Forgot the colors,
My 1st spanish of the season was on the good old Halco Laser Pro - red and white. But last year it was a Lively Lure - blue pillchard. I've heard purple's good too, but I thought that was just for helmets.
You might have to take a range of colours, and don't forget some Rapalas in bright colours. I always look for the big blob of red somewhere underneath near the gills for my towing lures. regards

Magoo,
All of the lures mentioned will catch fish. When you target them is also very important to consider. Darker moon phases, at dawn and dusk and around low tide are the peak times when mackeral will feed higher in the water column. Jigging, outriggers and paraveins are also an option as well as baits. Good luck!

theres really not much to rigging a lure, just use about 50cm - 1m of brown or black coated wire trace of about 80+lb with black snaps of 100+lb to attach to the lure and either a snap or swivel to attach to your main line. As for techniques, it relly depends on the day and what is getting results at the time, try different placements of the lures in the prop wash and boat speeds till you get some luck ;)

Macks get fussier the further south they go
in some places....just stick a red rag tied to a hook out the back will get you fish
at other locations.....you need to specialise a little :)

What they said,
Nth Qld they will take red rags, red skirts, silver foil, and pro's make their own metal and feather/skirt lures. In Sthn Qld u will need to try harder, try a spoon on a downrigger or paravane, a Halco laser pro and maybe a small skirted lure in a spread. Experiment with different techniques and lure sizes, try fluoro leaders instead of wire, some of the big body lures are adjustable for depth, don't let em too far out or u increase the chances of fouling the spread. cheers

Reefmaster penned a very good article in January's Bush and Beach Mag outling some of his fav trolling lures. I think from memory they included Rover2Sea Killer Vib 200 (blue over red), Halco Giant Trember (Chrome Gold), Rapala CD18 (red/white), Blue Pilly Crazy Deep (purple if you can get it but blue is fine) and Halco Laser Pro I think. :-/
In relation to rigging, it's been mostly covered here. Personally I use about 15-30cm of brown 69lb single strand wire connected by haywire twist and barrel rolls to a snap at the pointy end and a normal swivel (both must be black) to connect to your leader or main line. If connecting to a fluorocarbon leader, I crimp the small swivel to the leader and finish off applying some heat shrink tubing over the top of the connection.
Hope this helps.

In WA the Rapala CD 18 Magnum red head is probably among the most popular, and if they're down deep a leadhead jig (about 6 -7/0 hook with white fire tail) allowed to sink before a fast, jerky retrieve. We make our own jigs so they're cheap cause we sometimes lose LOTS of fish to noahs.

Depends on what bait fish are around, any lure that looks like them will work best, although if they are hungry, you could use anything. :) ;) ::) :( :-/ :'( [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=dizzy.gif]
