View Full Version : Spooled - but by what?

Any body got any guesses on what might have been?

Fished the sunken wall at Pinkenba last night. Nothing bought into the boat except for an undersized cod, but my girlfriend using 12lb mono, a 1/0 hook, pea sinker and a small strip of mullet got spooled. At first I thought it was a stingray, but discounted that for a couple of reasons. 1) I doubt her sinker would have held her bait anywhere near the bottom in that current, 2) it headed away from the wall and straight for deep water, 3) it was moving very fast. It took 300 yds of line in maybe 1 minute - 2 max and it was still going strong on its first run when we thumber the spool and snapped the line. Fortunately the line broke near the fish, so she was able to wind it all in and continue fishing.

I'm also doubtful it was a shark - I reckon a noah would swallow a 1/0 and slice the 12lb mono and you wouldn't even feel the bite.

p.s. computer just crashed so sorry if this ends up posting twice
