Guys,
Have bought 2 wolf herring's and a pre made rig for my hinchinbrook houseboat trip coming up on next week. Got the reel in for a service and ready to nail that +20kg spanish! Will be trolled in conjuction with a few other big bruiser lures.
Has anyone got any pics of how to rig them properly, they guy at the store briefly run me through it but I dont want to make any mistakes and ruin a good and slightly expensive bait. Can any one out there help me out?

hey noodles
hard to explain how to rig them but its pretty easy if your using pre made rigs with chin gaurd , if they don't swim right straight up give them a really srong yank through the water and they come good (most times) . Dental floss is handy for rigging them and make sure the mouth is tied shut. I live in cardwell and over the last 2 weeks some good spaniards have been caught when the weather allows 21,19.5, 17, 16 & 10.5 kg fish have been the last few and thats clean weight . You should have a great time ,going to chase a barra this afternoon for the first time this year so i'll let you know how i go . What Boat are you ?
Cheers
Ben

Hinchinbrook rent a yacht - Masquarade.
Yeah the rig has about 6 hooks with swivels attaching them and a sinker/chin guard at the top, where the mouth goes.

craigee - yeah mate saw your post and it has insipired me.
bought my wolfies and rig from tackle world also. the rig had about 6-7 8O's attached with swivels.
was wanting to know the particulars......
a) whether I just push the hooks in up from the front, having the last one up through the chin of the wolf herring
or
b) do i just put the hooks in from the side etc etc.
would like to know how you did yours

First hook is put through the Jaw, the railing 2 go into the flesh along the back-bone, you then run a length of wire 3/4 of the way back to the tail attached to a treble (Stinger).
By rigging this way, your bait swims upside down but does not worry the big macks !!

Noodles,
I have fished with both rigs and they both work !!
With the 7 x 8/0 rig, line your hooks up along the Woolfie, you want to position the top hook to go through both top and bottom jaws of your bait.
Hooks must go from the top to bottom or bottom to top, basically vertical along the spine of the bait. DO NOT run the hooks sideways through the bait as it will spin and not swim correctly.
Place the hooks in from the tail first, finishing with the top hook going through the jaws as mentioned above.
You may need to give the bait a bit of a bend back and forward to free it up before trolling.
Hope this helps and not too confusing ;),

noodles just returned from a fish off eva a heap of fish but a spaniard of about 16 kg was the highlight i didn't catch it a mate John Gooding did but a good fish. i wouldn't even put the hooks in the wolfie i'd just let them trail along beside it , works for me . Graige is right about the stinger though

nice to hear they are still around bennyj........unfortunately can't go to eva as its out of the survey zone.
at this stage we'll probably hang around the top end of hinchy on thurs and fri and head up to the family islands for sat, coming back sunday. the fishing classic is on that weekend, so not too keen to be amongst 1000 boats!

Is your mate John Gooding the same guy thats the fishing Charter Guy based down here in Brisbane ??
If so, I have been onboard with him. Top bloke and Charter, we caught some cracker AJ's and Yellow Tail Kingy's the day I was out.
