Having never caught a Snapper or variation of, I was keen to give the pinkenba wall a crack landbased (no boat - but if you are near Ashgrove/Gap let me know ;D ).
I was intending to use live poddy mullet as bait, with thoughts of flatties, passing jew, big bream etc as bycatch.

I don't want to waste my time with the smaller bream and flatties picking off small baits.
Then again I do not want to go so big as to only be waiting for monster specimens or sharks.
So would love to hear thoughts on what size poddy would just be too big for Squire?
Or for that matter, what size would be too small?

I know a lot of people have been using SP's of late around the area, but for some reason I want to see how the Poddy's go, they have never let me down anywhere else.

G'day
I do know of a bloke who will only fish live poddys at peel. He's pretty consistent with his catch. Anything up around the 6'' mark you should be ok.

mate size dosnt matter too much when it comes to poddy's, i have caught 80cm + flattys on less then 6cm models, but i would go about 8-10 cm as ideal, have caught many +1kg bream and squire on poddy's the big ones love them. you could go bigger poddy's but you reduce your chances of catching bream and smaller squire, but then bigger flattys and jew love the bigger ones.

I know plenty of blokes have caught beasts on the smallest bit of bait, but of course most likely catch will be the pickers.

Since also watching that clip of fishing NZ someone posted a while back, the livie he put on was well over poddy size.

Was also wanting to get impressions from those who have already been in that area and caught a few.

Is there a lot of current ripping past on the change of tide?
How far out from the wall would I need to get the bait?
Does the water get deeper in close or is there a little shelf?

I might have a crack at the tip in a previous post, cast out the weight, then attach the livie and let it swim out. That way it will cover a bit of water and at various depths too.

If anyone else is keen to give the area a go land based with livies let me know and we could organise a trip.
