Hey
Me and some mates are going camping on Tuesday and Wednesday at a place called The Broadwater(It's near Southport State School or Southport High). Does anyone know of any fishing spots around there when we can get a feed. We won't have a car so it will have to be within walking distance. Also what bait should we get.
Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers Brendon

I think that whole stretch of water between southport and south stradbroke is called the broadwater. Head for the beach at southport and then go north to a small river mouth. You'll see a pontoon, a footbridge and a road bridge. you could fish around the banks on either side near the bridges and also try the sand around the mouth of it on either side too. I use whitebait most of the time but I reckon prawns or small squid would do well there too.

The School is The Southport School (TSS) probably one of the best locations for a school I can think of if you like whiting.
And yes, to a Coastie they would consider the broadwater as being pretty much the mouth of the Nerang River at the Sundale Bridge to Jumpin Pin (any one else concur with this?)
There are quite a few locations where you can refuel at the water, there should be a few maps around if you ask your local bait/tackle shop before you head out.
If you have a yabbie pump you can pick up some yabbies in any likely looking sand bank in the broadie.
And better spots are the usual text book locations, sand banks, structure, pontoons, bridges, rock walls etc. There are plenty of places to try, many canals too.
I would be using lures more so when having an exploration around the place.
When you are in need of a feed etc, just drift or anchor up with some plastics bouncing out back with some livies floating around also.
Most of all fish the tides and don't get sunburnt.
