Hey all,
A call out to any local Gladstone fishermen… I need your help!
I have been trying with SP’s in Gladstone for a while now and have not had a great deal of success.
I have tried in the marina around the jetties, around the Calliope River Bridge pylons and around the creeks at the mouth of the Calliope River. I was wondering if anyone else has had any luck around the area with SP. If so could they give me a few pointers, like what size SP and jig heads are most successful. I mainly target bream and flatties, I have caught a few but not consistently.
Cheers for any help anyone can offer.

Later,
Greg

Hi Greg. I work on a local wharf and use soft plastics on night shifts when the boss isn't looking. Im no expert on SP's but the ones iv'e got work great. Just cheapies and the blue salmon love them. I would like to try some the next time im out the reef way.
Woodsy.

G'day Greg
I'm not a local.
But i was up there a few weeks ago delivering a car and got to have 1/2 hour fish under the boyne bridge at night,Got a few trevally before the Pike turned up.

Using Squidgie Shads with the resin heads..
Just cast near the pylons, then slowly wind in :)

Have you tried the hot water outlet at the back of the power station. SPs usually do allright there for Barra . Go right up close to the outlet and flick it over to the finger of bank over near the far outlets. Let it drift down with the wash and then when it is down stream crank it in slow. There used to be a guy in gladstone #called the Barra King. who had a fantastic record there . He only used vibrotails in that manner and really cleaned up.
I've picked up the odd one there using SPs in a similar way.
Try also around the bridge over to South trees from QAL near the salt water p/ps particulary at night. the pumps must churn up a bit of berley and if you flick into the shadows under the bridge and retrieve into the light you can do ok. Usually top and bottom of the tide. Winter time the salmon congregate there at times .If you have a boat try trolling the shallow ground on the Quoin Island side of farmers Reef for Estuary Cod. As soon as theres enough water to get you over the rocks start trolling the area up to high tide. Usually the cod are there between Nov to March
Good Luck
