Hey guys,
Just wondering about the zoning in the GBR, in particular Hamiliton Island, my reaserch shows this is a yellow zone and thus can have 1 rod/line with one hook... is this correct. Also are there any worthwhile fishing spots on Hamilton for the landbased fisho.
Cheers

You can pickup the zoning maps at most tackle stores for free, however if you want to check them online go to:
http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au/corp_site/management/zoning/zoning_maps.html
You are after MPZ10 and this does show Hamilton Island as a Yellow Zone.
The maps also have the legend showing what each colour means and you are correct yellow means, "limited to 1 line/rod per person and 1 hook per line".
Sorry can't help you with the land based fishing locations on Hamilton.

If you get the free zoning map MPZ10 (available from most fishing tackle shops and the fisheries Dept) it shows you where the rocky/reefy areas are around hamilton. Just keep in mind that there is 3 X 9 day closed period for the taking of reef fish. 16 Oct to 24 Oct, 14Nov to 22 Nov and 14 Dec to 22 Dec.
Loke Scott said it is a yellow zone and one hook means a gang is ok and trebles on a lure are ok.
If you are trolling more than 1 rod is allowed. No more than 3 rods. All the rules in regards to hooks etc are on the zoning maps

Eh? Since when? The rules say for Trolling in a Yellow Zone "Limited to 1 line/rod per person and 1 hook/lure per line."

MangoMick, your info on trolling don't sound right to me,
as far as I am aware 1 rod/one hook per person no matter what.
A lure constitutes one hook as does a set of gangs.
No paternosters.
Will drag out some maps and check, but that is how GBRMPA
representatives explained at meeting I attended.

Well MangoMick, I stand corrected.
At least according to GBR Maps activities guide, which states
YellowZone (Trolling) footnote 5, Maximum of 3 lines/rods per
person with a combined total of 6 hooks per person.
Will have to check actual regs, as all GBR maps carry disclaimers,
Otherwise it could be a worthwhile loophole for yellow zones.
Unfortunately all my zones are green.

You should learn to read all the words and not just a few. If you took notice of the adds that the Fishos have been running lately on telly you will find that you can only fish with 1 line and 1 hook or you can troll with 3 lines. The GBRMP officers are only a phone call away
Take the time to check out the www.gbrmpa.gov.au web site
