Please forgive my ignorence, but i have recently heard that sand crabs (whole) are the best bait for catching cobia. Can anyone confirm this for me. Apparently cobia absolutley love them. If this is true, how do you set the crab on your line?
Thanks in advance

not too sure about being "the best bait" but they do indeed eat them, and baiting is simple, just hook the crab from the rear of the body and bring the hook from underneath to come out of the top about half an inch or so in from the edge of the shell, there may be a dozen other secret ways to hook a crab, but that is easiest (I think)

You can use any poly cement or epoxy glue and glue the hook on to the back of the shell.
Also good for parrot.

Youtah,
If you are using a larger crab you may want to consider using a rubber band rig...
Cobia seem to eat a variety of baits from crabs to small stingrays...
Good luck

My old man recently came back from a trip around Aus and said over in WA, they supre glued the hook onto the top carpace of the crab, then set a rubber band over the line and around the rear swimmers to help it all sit properly.
Personally, the thought of trying to get a rubber band near a crab after a hook has just been glued to the back doesn't sound like an easy task... :-?The things some people do ::)
