Hey there.
I'm moving to Launceston soon and was wondering what the fishing was like around AMC/University of Tasmania. Any feedback is much appreciated.
cheers
Keenfisha. ;)

G'day Keenfisha,
Fishing around the AMC is pretty much hopeless, but all is not lost, as you dont have to travel far to catch a fish.
The AMC is at the tamar river basin and it is full of mud and polluted from the sewerage treatment works.
Go around the end of the river, past the penny royal mill and head towards riverside. fish for trout in the tail race .. the water is nice and clean there.
Make sure you get a fresh water licence and fish the season when it is open (it is open now)
The north and south esk rivers also have plenty of trout in them, just get upstream from the mouth where they join the tamar river.
Saltwater downstream in the tamar is good ... various jetties on both sides of the river.
Get down to georgetown which is only 40k's and fish off the rocks at the heads.
there is also some good land based gamefishing for big sharks here.
Cheers
Pete
I was at amc 10 years ago (yikes) and although I didn't fish, can confirm that the area around the uni is mud and marshy.
I'd also suggest chasing trout, in the creeks and the like or head to toward the mouth of the tamar which is maybe 45min drive away.
