Hey guys,
I caught this a month or so ago when fishing with one of my mates on a trip up to bundy. Just wondering what the heck it is and where they're usually caught? I caught it a Kirby's Wall in bundy.
Thanks heaps guys,
Sergio

Not worth keeping, though put up a good fight, particularly on light line. Don't know exact distribution, but seem to somewhat prolific north CQ.

Yeh it gave quite a good fight on 2lb fireline. Especially when it came in close to the rocks then it started to give me a fair bit of stick. Interesting thing was my 3" pumpkinseed gulp minnow was not in existance when i got it in. The whole gulp had disapeared from the TT jighead. Still good fun fighting when it was out as there was quite a bit of run in the water.
I didn't know that they were really caught in the rivers. I thought batfish mostly hung around reefs so i was not too sure what it was. He was happily released after a slight knock to the head when he flopped out of my hands, onto a rock, then into the water where he shot off no problems.

Gotta love those batfish. I had a few big ones hanging off the end of the boat one fishing trip with the uncle and to date it is one of the only fish that you can physically see and toss a bait in front of and sucker them into taking it every time(World's most gullable fish) ;D. The ones I caught were maybe twice the size and fun to play on light gear, take a couple of pics and release again. Good fun. Regards,

Yeah guys, absolute horses of the South Mole jetty. My wife and I, along with dozens of other tourists, were feeding the things with bread rolls the size of your fist. :) Scoffed down with one gulp. :o
The guide reconed that there are so many of them, because not even preadators will eat them. ;D

Well done on having the common sense to release it, instead of keeping it's carcass for ID!
Batfish for sure... They get huge!
There's one I know of inhabits a small bit of rock just off the beach at moreton.. I have seen him the last couple of years when snorkelling. He must be doing ok - He gets fatter each year!

A nature guide once told us when we were on holidays that they are protected as they are one of the few predators of the irrakanji jelly fish (not sure how its spelt). Don't know how accurate that is but they do get big and seem to eat what ever comes there way.
