Hi guys. I was wondering if any of you have had any luck fishing the close inshore reefs around Mooloolaba. I'm especially interested in picking up a few mackerel and was wondering what location and technique to use / whether burley is necessary / moon phase and tides etc. I'm limited some what in that I have a 4.35 allum boat. I've heard some of the boys have been picking them up around Currimundi reef. Any light you could throw on the subject would be greatly appreciated. I would need fairly calm weather to get out there and as such don't want to waste time searching all over the place. Thanks. :)

As for spotties, I've caught them a stones throw from Pt Cartwright. Just look for the birds then try casting slugs or if that doesn't result in hookups try a floating pillie.

You call it wasting time searching all over the place, I call it fishing. That's how I found my own spot X, Y and Z.

Wags,
Thanks for the tip. I've got no probs searching around but was just after a starting point in an area I'm not familiar with. If you do more digging with the "locals" you might be able to spend more time on your spot X, Y and Z and less time "fishing" for them.

Wags,
Thanks for the e-mail. You must do well getting out to wide caloundra in a 4.55! I'll take your advice and see how I go. Not sure I'll venture out that far myself though.
